The House of Representatives adopted a fiscal year (FY) 2018 budget resolution last week – the first concrete legislative step necessary to enact tax reform this year. Now, the Senate must act!
That’s why it is vitally important that you tell your U.S. Senators today to adopt the FY 2018 budget resolution reported by the Senate Budget Committee. This resolution will pave the way for comprehensive, pro-growth tax reform.
Let me explain.
Tax reform will take place through a two-part legislative process known as “budget reconciliation.” As I mentioned, the first step, passage of a budget resolution, has already been completed in the House and is expected to be voted on in the Senate NEXT WEEK.
The second step is enacting tax reform legislation, but that process can’t begin until both chambers of Congress have adopted a joint budget resolution.
Don, as you know, President Trump has pledged to overhaul our nation’s broken tax system to simplify the tax code, lower tax rates on American families, reduce the tax burden on small businesses, and make American companies more competitive globally.
But the timeframe for Congress to make good on the President’s pledge to cut taxes before year-end is very tight. If the Senate does not adopt the Budget Committee’s FY 2018 budget resolution next week, the opportunity for us to win this vital part of President Trump’s agenda to make America’s economy great again may slip away.
I urge you, as strongly as possible – before you do anything else today – tell your U.S. Senators right now that you expect them to vote YES on the Budget Committee’s FY 2018 budget resolution to pave the way to creating a lower, flatter, simpler tax system THIS YEAR.
Not only is time of the essence, but the vote on the House budget resolution was much closer than expected: 219 to 206 – with 18 Republicans voting AGAINST moving tax reform forward. Your U.S. Senators need to hear from you right away!

P.S. Don, just a few short weeks ago, lawmakers were dragging their feet on addressing tax reform this year. But after CCAGW members and supporters like you sent more than 15,000 e-mails to congressional offices, Republican leaders in Congress made tax reform their top priority for the fall. Your e-mails make a huge impact! Please contact your U.S. Senators today to tell them to support the budget resolution that will allow them to enact pro-growth tax reform in 2017!
