This month our speaker was Political Science Professor Thad Hill from Blinn College. The main topic of discussion was the Constitutionality of multiple issues such as; Executive Orders, Supreme Court decisions, and many others throughout the history of our country. Professor Hill will definitely be back for another visit, don’t miss it.
We had a very active discussion on topics ranging from water rights, to Jade Helm. In fact, too many to list, however there were many very interesting ideas, and everyone shared their opinion. Believe it or not, getting ones voice heard helps relieve tension. I’m sure we’ve all needed to vent, and in part, this is a purpose of these meetings. Bring your ideas to the next meeting, August 4th, 2015, and share.
One other important purpose is comradery, at times we feel alone in our suffering over how our government is turning our country inside out; what was wrong is right and what was right is wrong. For those under 30, these things may not be so obvious, but for the rest of us it is like living in a Orwellian nightmare. Let it be known that the meetings are not a pity party, we discuss what can be done to solve our problems.
One major way to get things back on track is communication. Not everyone is fond of things like Facebook or Twitter, even visiting a website can be asking a lot. For some, email is as far as it goes, but, that is ok too. As it is, communication of ideas may be done however it works for you. Don sends out email, sometimes lots of email. He copies links to important information and gets it out to as many as he has on his email list. If email works best for you, simply click the sign up button on the BurlesonCountyTeaParty.org Facebook page and be added to what is to become the newsletter list. Don’t forget to click like while you are there to get updates directly on Facebook every time there is a new post. Whatever works for you, just be sure to spread the word, get this information out to everyone you can, be it on Facebook, Twitter, email, smoke signals, or whatever.
This month’s meeting had a few new faces, sorry, I am the worst to remember names but these will be added in the future. We also had Curtis Doss as our guest speaker, he explained the duties and functions of the tax collectors office. This was very informative, I think we all learned something. Thank you Mr Doss, we hope you can come see us again soon. The same goes for everyone, we hope to see you at the next meeting!
The latest Burleson County Tea Party meeting, June 3rd, held at the Senior Center in Caldwell, TX, the first at that location since switching from the Civic Center. The Caldwell Senior Center, located next to the Caldwell City Hall, offers parking in the rear of the building as well as on the street in front for easy access, as well as a “kitchen table” atmosphere. This move also allows for a more convenient time, starting at 6:30pm instead of the previous 6:00pm, and now, no cutoff time, the meeting can end when it is over without a rush.
At this meeting, Tea Party members brought a variety of tasty snacks, including iced tea, hot coffee, chips of all sorts, and dips ranging from onion, cheese, even some more spicy than others. There were cakes of many types, like a delicious lemon, a yellow cake with icing, a nut cake and others, all reason enough to come to the meeting, even without the fellowship of like-minded, concerned citizens.
During this meeting, there is a period of open discussion, covering a range of current event topics, followed by the monthly class, and discussion of the U.S. Constitution. This month that covered Paper #4 Presidential Powers, Paper #5 the 28th amendment, Paper #6 Term Limits, and Paper #7 Impeachment. If you missed the class you may click those links and download the .PDF.
Next month, July 1st, the meeting will again be at the Senior Center, as usual, the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm. The Constitution class will cover Paper #8 Enumerated Powers of the Courts, and Paper #9 Where do Rights come from?, again, click the link and download the papers for the class. You may also CLICK HERE to go download the entire course as well as other Important Documents.
See you then!
After the recent Bundy Ranch episode by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Texans are becoming more concerned about the BLM’s focus on 90,000 acres along a 116 mile stretch of the Texas/Oklahoma boundary. The BLM is reviewing the possible federal takeover and ownership of privately-held lands which have been deeded property for generations of Texas landowners.(Read More)
