COOK’S POINT, Texas – The Burleson County Republican (GOP) Convention had a pretty good turnout for a mid-term election cycle, though not as large as the Presidential cycle where more people always get involved, the business of the day handled according to standard Republican protocol, with interesting guest speakers.

County Judge Mike Sutherland gave the delegates and guests a few tips on topics most likely discussed at the State Convention, and how some could confuse, maybe even mislead, if not understood. Property values, taxes, tax rates, and where the money goes to name a few.

Judge Sutherland also told an interesting story about Beaver Creek, a local community, and their issues setting up a Municipal Utility District for water service, and how State Representative District 13, Lois W. Kolkhorst used her years of experience to help them solve issues related to this, involving state funding and assistance for this community of about 250 people.

Ken Prestenbach, a candidate for county treasurer also paid a visit and explained his goals and visions, with what could and could not be done along with issues a new candidate faces, like funding a campaign and just how much work goes into this daunting task.

After the Convention finished it was time to eat. The food was generously donated by Mr. Prestenbach, the brisket, smoked to perfection by Don Cook. Other home cooked dishes like cole-slaw, beans, potato salad, and bread pudding rounded out the feast.

For those in Burleson County not in attendance, we missed you. Remember, this is how you help change the things you don’t like in the County, State, and Federal government.
