The meetings always start with an open discussion; this is where one may get questions out in the open and share opinions and bits of information so if you have something on your mind come share it at our next meeting, 05-05-2015. After the meeting we watched a video lesson on “The Federalist Papers.”
Today’s meeting involved the Convention of States and how under Article 5 of the U.S. Constitution a Constitutional Convention may be called. Many have heard of this and opinions vary on whether this is a good idea. Our unanimous decision on this is simple; it should NOT happen.
The reason for this is simple; what is there to protect our current Constitution from a Progressive attack? Nothing! Once this convention is convened anything could happen. The last Constitutional Convention, May 25, 1787 is when the original Articles of Confederation were replaced with our current Constitution; get the picture?
In a perfect world we would just elect people who follow the “law of the land”, our current US Constitution. What if we open that door and lose what we already have but do not protect? What could be the best case scenario? We add new Amendments that no one enforces? But what could the worst case scenario be?
As conservatives we try to protect what we already have. Progressives want to change or do away with everything that has protected us since 1787; to them the U.S. Constitution is just an old document with little or no meaning. Can anyone be sure of the outcome of this convention? Why not just keep what we already have?
